ilan katin (b. 1972) is a Berlin based artist who makes non-figurative drawings and paintings on paper,and creates live visual performances in collaboration with musicians, occasionally extending into installation.Since 2014 he has produced one new piece each day as part of an ongoing project he calls daily, shifting its materials and format from year to year.
The daily series has moved through acrylic-marker cards, laser-cut wood pieces, hand-torn paper shapes and, from 2022, small digital animation loops published to the Tezos blockchain via objkt.com.A related, older body of work, his line drawings, began while he was in art school and has continued since 2001 in a near-constant 6.5 x 4.5 inch format he describes as “meditations”.
Since 2013 he has collaborated with the sound artist Jasmine Guffond, creating live visual accompaniment for her performances, music videos drawn from that material, and several installations.He is also the official visual artist for the band krautfuzz, formed in 2022 with Imari Kokubo, Dirk Dresselhaus and Derek Shirley, making live video art for their shows and cover art for their releases.Under the name Vocoline he premiered a new work at Sowieso in Berlin in 2016, and gave a solo performance under the same name at the Tagtool Convention in Tulln, Austria, in 2019.
The 2018 edition of the daily project, made from laser-cut wood, was exhibited as “DAILY PEACE 2018” at einBuch in Berlin in 2019.,His paintings on paper were shown at Fousion Gallery in Barcelona in the two-part exhibition “Whisper Visions”.Two of his paintings were also included in the 2026 group show “Above the Karman Line” at the same gallery.
