Ian Wright is a Kenyan developer and generative artist who creates fully on-chain generative art.,,Since 2021 he has worked in close collaboration with fellow Kenyan artist Kamau Kamau, releasing generative projects together as Kamau Kamau & Ian Wright.,Their collaborative work draws on African cultural symbolism, from Kenya's national identity to traditional beadwork.,
Their collection Umoja, released on the platform fxhash, consists of 254 fully generative, on-chain editions that reference Kenya's country calling code as a symbol of identity, origin and unity. It premiered at “Tezos @ South Beach” during Art Basel Miami, where it was minted live and placed directly into collectors' hands in real time.The work was later shown during African Union Day celebrations in Brasilia, Brazil, in early 2024, and in 2025 it was invited to “Rhizome World”, an annual event held by Rhizome and the Processing Foundation.,
Wright and Kamau Kamau have also released generative work through Art Blocks under the joint name Kamau Kamau & Ian Wright, including the projects Prohibition and Spiroglyph.,Their project Inner Reflection, released through the Gamma launchpad, drew on the tradition of African beadwork, a practice they noted has been revered across the continent for thousands of years.
