Bio
Huw Messie (b. 1999) writes code that turns video frames into machine-embroidered, stop-motion animations. Based in New York, he is a 2021 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Art, where he studied human-computer interaction and time-based media. His series Bizarre Fabrications explores interconnected systems of people, machines and materials through thread.
At Carnegie Mellon, he was mentored by the artist Golan Levin, who walked him through the minting process the day after his 2021 graduation. He then began releasing embroidered-animation editions on the platform Hic et Nunc. His work has since been recognized with the 2024 Steve Jobs Archive Fellowship and a microgrant from the Award Fund for Art at the Frontier.
