Horo Mox, the pseudonym of the Paris-based artist Serge Aa, makes generative digital art from true randomness — numbers pulled from radioactive decay, atmospheric noise and quantum random number generators, rather than the pseudo-randomness of ordinary algorithms.,He calls the resulting work “AIproof art”, chaotic and unpredictable patterns designed to resist interpretation by machine-learning systems.
He began experimenting with neural networks and true random number generators in the 1990s, generating abstract images and texts from data such as radioactive decay and atmospheric noise from thunderstorms. In 2004 he developed the concept of AIproof art, using true randomness to reject patterns that machine learning algorithms could reproduce, a concept that later evolved into what he calls the OArt paradigm.Between 1999 and 2003 he studied traditional Tibetan Buddhist ceremonial arts, including TangKa painting and NamKha ritual objects, at a monastery in the Karma Kagyu and Shangpa Kagyu lineages.That training later informed his series Quantum Air NamKhas, which reconceives the traditional Tibetan Namkha as a device built from quantum data and random numbers intended to resist artificial intelligence interpretation.
His series AliceBob (2024–) consists of bitmap paintings made from datasets drawn from quantum random number generators, while PinkWare (2021) is a run of animated paintings based on the outputs of a quantum algorithm in conversation with a biocomputer.His project Mindware centers on NeuroDoom, an experiment pairing a biocomputer based in Switzerland and made from human stem cell-derived mini-brains with a generative video game inspired by Doom. The experiment is mediated through an AI agent named Motoko Nakamoto, with resulting works minted as NFTs on Ordinals.His work has been shown in group exhibitions including “Unbound: Ecology in the Age of Machines” at Unit London in 2023,“Paul Klee Digital” at Kulturmuseum Bern in 2024,and “Sacred Code” at the Noise Art Fair in Istanbul in 2025, presented by Galerie Data with objkt.com.
