Hannes Hummel (German, b. 1987) is an interdisciplinary artist and designer who works across CGI, AI, web3, immersive audio-visual installations and moving images. His background in Integrated Design shapes an exploration of the intersection between organic and digital forms, reinterpreting natural complexity through symmetry, tessellations and patterns.,He co-founded BLOOM, a collective exploring web3 and fine art.
Hummel's series Living Still Lifes,,part of his Artificial Florilegia project begun in 2021, reimagines Flemish still-life oil paintings as digital flower arrangements built from scanned botanical segments, procedurally generated components guided by mathematical formulas such as the Fibonacci sequence, and light data scanned from the original paintings.The flowers in these works are made to wilt and brown over time, a reminder of the transience of all things.In October 2023 the Deji Art Museum in Nanjing, China, commissioned Hummel to create one of these animated still lifes for its permanent collection, shown as part of the exhibition “Nothing Still About Still Lifes - Three Centuries of Floral Compositions”.,His artwork Poetics of Space won the Best Artwork Award on a display at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul.Hummel's work has also been shown at the Beijing Contemporary Art Expo and at Contemporary Calgary alongside works by Andy Warhol.,
Hummel's series Hybrid Species, released in 2024, continues an exploration of digital flora he began with Artificial Bloom in 2020, and is his first series to use AI tools in its creation. The series blends eighty images of real flowers, fruits and other botanical elements, made with tools including Stable Diffusion, Midjourney and Cinema 4D, into hybrid forms that are at once familiar and invented.Nine works from the series appear in Vetro Editions' book Neo Botanica: An Atlas of Artificially Generated Flora,and Hummel was one of 32 contemporary artists included in the accompanying group exhibition “Neo Botanica” at Load Gallery in Barcelona.In December 2025 Hummel took part as one of 25 guest artists in Jenni Pasanen's Advent Collaboration, a 24-day series releasing daily one-of-one artworks minted through Transient Labs.
