Guillaume Cornet (French, b. 1987) is an illustrator and painter known for meticulously detailed, hand-drawn scenes packed with thousands of things to spot.Cornet's works place intricate characters in unexpected geometrical environments influenced by architecture and surreal perspective, creating a humorous visual language around unusual, bizarre situations.
Cornet studied illustration at Camberwell College of Arts, graduating in 2009, after fine art studies at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth.Despite working in a digital age, Cornet favors traditional techniques and analogue processes, keeping close contact with materials throughout the creative process. The Favela Series and Cityscape works draw on densely populated neighborhoods Cornet visited in South America. The works also draw on Paris, London, Lima and Barcelona, the cities where Cornet has lived and worked.
Cornet has completed commissioned projects for brands and organizations including Lyft, Lululemon, National Geographic, Winsor & Newton, Equinox, the BBC, Pentagram and Nike.In October 2018, Laurence King Publishing released Elephants on Tour, Cornet's first fully illustrated children's book, distributed in twelve languages worldwide.
Cornet has held solo exhibitions including “Elephants in Shanghai” at Shanghai's Kubrick Bookstore in 2019 and “Elephants in the Hood” at Decorazon Gallery in New York in 2023.In 2019, Cornet also paired with the artist 111iks for the duo show “Rumbling Roads” at Odd One Out Gallery in Hong Kong.In 2023, Cornet's work also appeared in a group show at NFT Factory Paris.
