Guido Schmidt is a German creative programmer and generative artist based in the Mannheim/Heidelberg region who writes code that connects technology with creative disciplines, producing generative art and interactive visual systems. He earned a master's degree in Computational Visualistics from the University of Koblenz in 2016, a computer graphics and image-processing program that also drew on art history and media art.
His generative practice is grounded in mathematics and simulation, ranging from cellular automata and recursive curve algorithms to physical models of synchronization. In 2018 he began the series Generative Towers, illustrations inspired by the fortified French city of Carcassonne and Paul Maar's book Türme. His 2020 project Supershape Lifeforms used a custom Python implementation of the supershape formula in TouchDesigner to animate forms driven by movements such as breathing and growth found in living organisms. In 2022 he explored Persian Recursion, based on a pixel-recursion algorithm described by mathematician Anne M. Burns in 1997. That year he also created Kuramoto Synchronisation, applying Yoshiki Kuramoto's model of coupled oscillators to create self-synchronizing animated visuals.
In October 2022 his generative NFT project chorégraphie, released on fxhash, was featured by the digital art publication CreativeApplications.Net.He is also a member of Pendeloque, a light-artist collective performing mainly in the Mannheim and Heidelberg area.He also publishes technical tutorials, including an open-source guide to building custom generative meshes with TouchDesigner's Python scripting API.As a creative developer for the agency FIELD.IO, he has contributed to interactive experiences including an IBM-commissioned installation exploring nine years of Masters golf tournament data at Augusta National, and IBM watsonx, presented at IBM Think 2024.,
