GISELXFLOREZ, known as Gisel Florez, is a photographer and conceptual artist who works with manual camera and video techniques to explore light and time. In 2019 she began Transmissions of Light, a series of long-exposure photographs that capture the unseen spectrum of LED, phosphorus and neon light emissions in urban spaces, each exposure the product of inertia, force and aperture within the camera.
A first-generation Cuban American from New Jersey, GISELXFLOREZ studied at the Rhode Island School of Design before moving to New York. She worked there as a digital assistant to photographers including Richard Pierce, Greg Kadel and Alexi Hay before Barneys New York asked her to build its first in-house photography studio. From 2003 she ran her own commercial still-life studio, shooting for clients including L'Oréal, Revlon, ESPN and The New York Times. In 2018 she began tokenizing limited editions of her photography on KnownOrigin and, with initial support from SuperRare, learned the developing Ethereum blockchain ecosystem.
