Generative Artworks is an artist duo based in the New York City area who make generative art. They gained a following on Instagram, where they began posting generative work daily in June 2020, before discovering Art Blocks in February 2021 and releasing their first project there, Empyrean, in March 2021.
A second project, Enchiridion, followed on Art Blocks in June 2021. In June 2022 the duo discussed their collection Democracity on Art Blocks' Behind the Code series, in which generative artists reveal their creative coding process. Their project Coalition departs from generative art's usual focus on large-scale algorithmic variety, instead limiting the work to 36 geometric mints that together form a single 6x6 grid composition. A 37th token was made available for purchase, but the algorithm was designed to self-destruct after mint #35, so its buyer received only an error message, turning the release into a piece of performance art about storytelling and limitation in generative art.
