Gelo is a New York-based artist and architect who reinterprets architectural forms as art, drawing on more than two decades of practice in both fields. His work centers on a recurring small red figure, a motif he calls “the lonely guy”, rendered with a distinctive use of light and shade to evoke depth and emotion.
The HERO, minted in January 2025, depicts a red figure perched on an architectural form amid skyscrapers, expressing the longing for strength and guidance in difficult times. Living in LaGuardia, 2024, draws on personal memories of air travel, setting airplanes rendered in red and metallic tones against the muted stillness of surrounding buildings. Destination, 2023, places a solitary red figure on a balcony beneath a full moon and a passing airplane, its narrative built around ambition and emotional fulfillment. farrr away takes its inspiration from the spirit of the Twin Towers.
