Francesco Forcellini is a designer who develops custom generative software that translates traditional craft patterns into computer-generated designs for physical objects and NFT editions.,He founded his design studio in Milan in 2017, after working in London and the Netherlands for internationally recognized design studios.Since 2023 he has released the generative NFT project Stir on Tezos through fxhash, grown out of hand-woven textile swatches made in his studio.
The project began from a series of hand-woven swatches made in his studio, using traditional black-and-white diagrams for representing weaving patterns as its starting point. He built custom software, developed in p5js, that combines traditional and modern patterns through procedural techniques to generate an unlimited variety of textile designs. Although the algorithm can produce endless variations, the Stir NFT series is capped at 250 artworks, each generated randomly at the moment of purchase. In 2024 the project expanded to meter-long pattern designs, shown at an exhibition at Id-Exe during Milan Design Week. That same year he developed Fade, a JavaScript program generating gradient patterns for tiles, made for De Castelli's “Ornamentum” exhibition on metal erosion.
He graduated in Design Innovation from the Milan Polytechnic. His studio designs furniture and surfaces for brands including Cappellini, Bentley Home, De Castelli and Tonelli Design. In 2024 Bentley Home launched his Wilton desk and Bollington armchair as the first pieces in its home office collection at Salone del Mobile.,In 2022 his Sculpt sideboard for De Castelli won the Archiproducts Design Award in the furniture category.
