Fort Gallery NFT is the NFT curatorial arm of FORT Gallery, an interdisciplinary art space and music venue founded in San Francisco in 2007 by Vanessa Coleman. The gallery expanded across four Bay Area locations over nine years, providing space to hundreds of artists and musicians, before closing in 2016. Coleman later relaunched FORT as a metaverse gallery curating NFT artists on Tezos.
In December 2021, Fort Gallery NFT presented “Metavirtual”, a group exhibition at Art Basel Miami Beach, where Coleman's virtual reality installation was shown via the Oculus Quest 2 for those unable to attend in person. Earlier that year, the gallery had presented the group show “This must be the place” (July-August 2021), and in 2022 it exhibited “FEMME FUTURE” at NFTCON in the Miami Convention Center.,In the same year, Fort Gallery partnered with the platform Rarible on “Histórias Fantásticas”, an exhibition themed around fantastical whimsy that featured a poster work by the artist Artdeft, part of a monthly series minted on objkt to document the gallery's artists and exhibitions on the blockchain.
Fort Gallery NFT has also curated exhibitions and commissions for individual artists, including “Poetic Justice” (February 2023) and Talking Over, a generative piece on fx(hash) launched in May 2023, made by Pierre Gervois with visual artist Diego Pintos and co-curated with the NFT Museum of Newberry, South Carolina.The gallery also curated Danielle King's first solo exhibition, “Artificial Childhood Memories”, on the platform Joyn.xyz, and by 2022 had relocated its physical home to Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico.,Coleman has described her goal for the gallery as helping “set the precedent as we pioneer this movement on the Tezos platform from a foundation going back 15 years”.
