Foodmasku is the alter ego of Antonius Oki Wiriadjaja, a New York City-based artist who turns meals into face masks, photographs himself wearing them, and then eats the ingredients.,He created the project in April 2020 after putting his dinner on his face to mimic a colleague's stuck pickle-face filter during a video call, and posted the results on Instagram.,
Wiriadjaja is American with Chinese-Indonesian heritage and was a Fulbright Scholar in Indonesia.,Before turning to art full time, he had worked as a neuroscience researcher and university professor.,In 2013 he survived being shot by a stray bullet, which put him in a coma for five days and left him unable to walk for 17 months of physical therapy.
After discovering NFTs in 2021, he began minting his food-mask photographs on KnownOrigin, becoming one of the platform's top 25 selling artists.His Hundred Day Mask Challenge, made during the first hundred days of the Biden-Harris administration in 2021, became one of KnownOrigin's top-selling primary-sales collections.,He went on to release further mask photographs as his FoodmaskuDelectables project.
In May 2022 his work appeared in “What we eat Who we are” at the Iham gallery in Paris.That September he performed at “Nafas”, a food-and-art exhibition at Brooklyn's Invisible Dog Art Center.The performance involved a couple being served dinner by people wearing food masks, before the diners put on food masks themselves.
