Fizz Pop, the pseudonym of the UK-born, Canada-based artist Christopher Rodrigues, is a digital painter whose work explores still-life and landscape traditions through both traditional and emerging digital techniques. He began digitally painting flowers in Photoshop in 2001, and later expanded his practice into animation, generative processes and AI tools.
For his Still Life series, he created digital interpretations of Dutch Golden Age oil paintings from the era of Tulip Mania, drawing a parallel between the 1637 speculative bubble in tulip bulbs and the 2020 boom in cryptocurrency and digital art. Working under a pseudonym he has described as “a gender-free anonymous handle that allowed me freedom to explore the digital space in a way that felt safe & exciting”, he also draws on science fiction, fantasy and mythology to address themes of environment, identity and spirituality.
In November 2022, a large-scale projection of his work was shown at Refraction's Miami Art Week exhibition in Little Haiti, Miami, curated by Dina Chang and Malcolm Levy.His Still Life series was also shown on digital screens at multiple locations across Los Angeles as part of a joint showcase by StandardVision and Vellum LA.
