Ferdinand Dervieux is a French digital artist based in Paris with a transdisciplinary practice spanning virtual reality, interaction design, and generative art.He studied art and art history before entering the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in 2008, and joined an interaction design research lab in 2013.,
At the design school he learned book-making and silkscreen printing before turning to the then-experimental medium of virtual reality in 2015, when he co-produced three projects, DRIFT, Along the Trail, and Panopticon, for an international competition organized by Oculus. All three won awards and brought him support from Facebook and Google. He went on to co-found SharpSense, a studio producing interactive VR experiences and video games, the experimental publishing house Parallèles Éditions, and Panoptic Lab, a collective devoted to VR experimentation.
In 2019 he spent a year in Japan exploring photogrammetry, a technique that builds three-dimensional volumes from photographic point clouds, before returning to Paris.,With the photographer Dimitri Daniloff he later used the technique to create 10M DE POINTS, an interactive virtual-reality piece that won the immersive-creation award organized by EDF Odyss'Elec and Fisheye Magazine and was shown at the VR Arles Festival. With the artist Pierre Zandrowicz he created What is Left of Reality, a scan-based documentary experience about solastalgia, the psychological distress caused by environmental change, shown in the exhibition “Les Ailleurs” at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris in 2021.,
Generative art has since become his preferred medium, particularly long-form collections that explore universal emotions while questioning web3 culture and its ecosystem. These include The Past Ahead, released on fxhash in December 2022.His work was also shown in the exhibition “Tongyeong Triennale 2022 - Take Your Time” in South Korea.
