Felix Pensel is a German artist based in Nuremberg whose paintings, drawings and digital work build intricate landscapes where a bold, striking motif dissolves on closer inspection into labyrinths of tiny illustrations and hidden detail. His practice began with graffiti in his youth and grew into a distinct abstract, typographic style shaped by his study of media design and illustration. Some of his drawings take up to 400 hours to complete.
His work is influenced by the precision of Albrecht Dürer, the rebellious character of graffiti, and his own fascination with cosmology and physics. That interest in physics has led him to break forms into fragments, seeking a view into the interior of matter and the networked systems that make up the world. He works across acrylic, spray paint and oil as well as digital tools, sound, poetry and performance, building multi-layered narratives and immersive exhibitions that combine gallery display with interactive installation.
