Fabin Rasheed (Indian, b. 1988) is an artist, designer and creative technologist based in Dubai whose work explores recurring patterns he finds across physics, meditation, dreams and contemplative traditions.,,He works with generative code, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and brainwave-sensing devices, treating technology as both a medium and a collaborator.,
Rasheed was born in Alappuzha, in the Indian state of Kerala.His interest in digital creativity began when he received his first computer in 1998.He pursued a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication, then worked as a design researcher at IIT Guwahati before completing a Master's in Design at IIT Hyderabad.,Rasheed then moved from design work into an independent art practice, driven to explore his own psychological and philosophical questions. His focus on dreams and hypnagogic imagery grew out of surviving severe depression, which led him to study dreams and hypnagogic states. He developed a method of posing a question to his own mind during hypnagogia, a semi-sleep state, and drawing on the images that surface in response.In 2018-19 he worked with the machine-learning engineer Sleeba Paul on Auria Kathi, an “artist in the cloud” that posted AI-generated haiku poetry and images to Instagram without further human input.,The project was shown at the Florence Biennale in 2019, the same year a related project, AI Brushes, which paints with concepts using AI, appeared in the NeurIPS Creativity Gallery.
Before Snowfro launched the Art Blocks platform, Rasheed encouraged the artist Daïm Aggott-Hönsch to take part in early beta testing of its prototype.Fellow early NFT artists have credited him with a similar role: Piter Pasma recalls becoming aware of NFTs by watching Rasheed experiment with them, and Arjit Kapoor says Rasheed introduced him to the concept of NFTs.,He also contributed to Cyber Watch, a composite of 107 states by 33 artists working as the collective The Guild, based on Rembrandt's The Night Watch and released on the Async Art platform.Other works include Alappuzha, a coded tribute to his hometown that changes in response to a viewer's location, time, season and weather.,In Dreamcatcher, he records his own brainwaves with an EEG headset during meditative and hypnagogic sessions and translates the data into three-dimensional generative imagery in real time.The installation O, which addresses four stages of consciousness including dream states, was shown at the AI Action Summit in the Grand Palais, Paris, in 2025, and at Art Dubai with the Paris-based gallery DANAE.,,
