Etiene Crauss is a Brazilian digital artist whose figurative work translates personal emotional experience, including passion, rage, desolation, and loneliness, into staged, painted images. Crauss worked as a graphic designer for several years before shifting to personal art full-time in 2020, minting a first work, For A Minute There, I Lost Myself, that August. Crauss cites Francis Bacon as a central influence.
Each piece begins with a staged photo shoot, often with Crauss's partner modeling the scene, before the images are composited in Photoshop, drawn in Procreate, and painted digitally. Crauss has said the process helps turn bottled-up feelings into something tangible, and hopes the work can shed light on mental health while drawing attention to independent emerging artists from developing countries.
