Esteban Amaro (Chilean, b. 1987) is a visual artist and photographer whose practice spans photography, sculpture, video, installation, and AI-generated imagery.,His work explores minimalism, time, and space, often through desert and coastal landscapes that draw on ancestral wisdom and cosmology.,,Amaro was born in Santiago, Chile, and is represented by Mahara + Co in Miami and ArtStar in New York.
Between 2017 and 2022 Amaro made Litoral de los Poetas, a photography series shot along Chile's central coast, home to the poets Vicente Huidobro, Pablo Neruda, and Nicanor Parra, using immensity and time as its central subjects.From 2018 to 2023 he produced Water Portals, photographing sculptures he placed to appear levitating in the waters of the Chilean coast, forming portal-like shapes that reference accounts of beings appearing and disappearing from ancient texts including the Bible and the Mahabharata.His 2023 solo exhibition “Immensity” was presented in digital format at Monolith Gallery.
Amaro later began generating images with artificial intelligence, producing In The Past Hides The Future (2023-2025), a series of desert monolith structures made first with the since-deprecated Stable Diffusion 2.1 model and then refined through post-production adjustments to tone, contrast, and light.,The AI Art Magazine featured his image Lightness Of The Being (2023) in its third issue, Spatial Intelligence.Amaro's photography was named a finalist in the Lumen Prize's Still Image category in 2025 and placed second in the International Photography Awards' Fine Art Minimalism category in 2022, and his work has been exhibited in New York, Miami, London, and Santiago de Chile, as well as in the Metaverse.
