The images have drawn comparisons to Weegee's crime photography and Andy Warhol's Death and Disaster Series, and most closely to the accident photographs of Swiss police photographer Arnold Odermatt.² By Accident has been shown at FIFTY ONE TOO gallery in Antwerp in 2023, in a Gallery Fifty One group show at Paris Photo in 2024, and at 28 Vignon Street.^2,3,4 In 2024, the project received an Honorable Mention in the Eyeshot Open Call, selected from more than 15,000 submissions by a jury of seven photographers, editors, and curators.⁵

The project has since grown into related bodies of work, including Chalklines and Re-Enactments, both drawn from the same archive. In December 2024, ten years after De Baer's death, Bulckens released Casual Marcel De Baer, a five-piece limited edition of his grandfather's non-accident photographs. Separately, his Ski Bum Experience project draws on his own photographs from years spent skiing and snowboarding in the Alps, paired with a tokenized guided ski experience in St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria.¹
