In his statement for the piece, Davidson described the concept of “pentimento” — the presence of earlier forms or images that have been painted over — as the basis for the work's layered rendering process, where each layer builds on the one before while also covering it. He linked the piece to Meadow, the small town he is from, describing it as “the first layer of my life's pentimento”. Davidson credited Vera Molnár as an influence on his use of squares in the piece.²

Davidson also released Masonry on Art Blocks. In March 2023, he released All Fold: Sketch on fxhash to a strong reception, selling 150 pieces even as its floor price stayed below 10 Tezos.¹
