Eric Andwer is a woodworker and generative artist based in the Midwest, United States, who writes code to process depression, anxiety and the frustrations of daily life into visual form.,He began making generative art in 2020 after discovering Art Blocks, having long felt his own drawing skills were not equal to the images in his imagination.
His project Constraint began with a single question: what could be done to a simple shape, breaking it, bending it and putting the pieces back together. He channeled frustration, anger and loneliness into the constraints of the algorithm itself, limiting where lines and points could be drawn and occasionally letting them bleed through those limits. The resulting 231-work collection is deliberately imperfect, its gritty textures, drips and scattered marks giving visual form to being overwhelmed or isolated.
In July 2025 he held a solo exhibition, “The State of Me”, at Galerie Met in Berlin, presented in collaboration with fxhash. The show paired his generative work with a first-person poem cycling through states of being loved, broken, hopeful and barely present.
