EdgeStretching is the pseudonym of Benedetta Mucchi, an Italian digital artist based in Brussels who makes multilayered photographic images that introduce subtle shifts in time, motion and perception. Mucchi studied computer graphics and animation at UCLA and spent more than two decades in the audio-visual industry before beginning an independent artistic practice in 2016.
Between 2012 and 2021, Mucchi produced short films and animated works shown at European festivals, including Nothing Happens (2021), Working Day (2020) and Life (2018). These were selected and awarded at venues including the MinIndie Film Festival, Visualízame in Segovia and the Kursaal Film Festival in San Sebastián. In 2023, Mucchi transitioned, with photography, into on-chain digital art. In 2025, Mucchi was selected for HUG's 100 Photographers to Watch, curated by the National Geographic photographers John Knopf and Michael Yamashita.The series Extinct was nominated in the Photomanipulation category at the 2026 Fine Art Photography Awards, after an earlier nomination for the series Sequences in the Experimental category in 2023.
Mucchi's work has been shown across Europe, Asia and the United States in cities including Brussels, Paris, Rome, Kyoto, Chicago and Tokyo, with platforms and galleries such as Artcrush, Obscura, LoosenArt and ImnotArt.The work has also appeared on large-scale public screens, including in Times Square in New York, across hundreds of screens in Belgium, and in Hong Kong and Melbourne. In early 2025, Artcrush named Mucchi Spotlight of the Month, which brought further exposure across multiple continents.
Between September 2024 and May 2026, Mucchi developed the series De-Construction, combining photographs taken in European cities with AI-generated heavy machinery made using Midjourney and Gemini. The oversized machines, photographed in a Brussels public square and other cityscapes, are used to explore control, dependence and disruption in urban life.The thirteen-work collection, including the pieces Wrecking Ball and Crawler Excavator, was released exclusively on Verse on July 3, 2026,with 20% of primary proceeds supporting the #WomanLifeFreedom movement through the Abdorrahman Boroumand Center.
