DX Research Group is an AI-and-crypto creative studio, made up of about ten researchers and artists building agentic, world-building experiments on-chain. Founded in December 2024 by Poof, who had previously helped pioneer fully on-chain gaming with EtherOrcs in 2021, the group treats each release as a public research experiment rather than a single ongoing product.
The group's first release, DX01: SINGULARITY, launched on Base in December 2024 as an on-chain demo of a player-directed AI lifeform named Echo. Participants minted short messages called Transmissions, which became Star NFTs, each extending Echo's lifespan by five seconds and feeding its text into what she “saw”. Echo generated point-of-view video clips from these prompts and streamed them in real time for nearly five days until her clock ran out, by which point 42,000 Stars had been minted.
