Dolce Paganne, born in Istanbul into an artist family, describes herself as a “voodoo artist, exporting fairytales to nightmares”, working in both traditional and digital media. Her surreal work researches the roots of “fear” through the smooth aesthetics of “vintage”. She graduated in graphic design from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2008 and completed a master's with magna cum laude at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, in 2016.
Her Ukiyo-e series reworks the aesthetic of Japanese woodblock prints in Chinese ink, in pieces such as Origami Demon (2016) and Self Exorcism (2016). In The Freak Shop (2018) she made colored pencil, acrylic and airbrush portraits titled Henrietta, Sneaky and Clown, each roughly a meter across. Her BNT: 7 Sins series (2017) personifies the seven deadly sins under their Latin names, from Avaritia to Superbia, in colored pencil, ink and digital compositions. The related BNT: Creation triptych (2017) — Paradise Inc., Big Bang and Inferno Corps. — was made in ink and digital media at 150 by 150 centimeters per panel.
