davidvnun, the pseudonym of Canadian-Mexican 3D artist David Viramontes Nunura, makes digital sculpture, animation and augmented reality work exploring the anxiety, dissociation and fragmentation of self that come from living entangled with digital technology. Canadian by birth and Mexican by upbringing, he trained in animation at ITESM in Mexico City and at Vancouver Film School, then spent a decade in Vancouver's animation industry before turning to independent art in 2021.
He holds a degree in Animation and Digital Art from ITESM in Mexico City (2011-2015) and a diploma with honors in 3D Animation and VFX from Vancouver Film School (2014). In Vancouver he spent ten years working in the animation industry at studios including Bardel Entertainment, DHX Media (WildBrain) and Rainmaker Entertainment, production experience that grounds the technical precision of his personal work. His work draws on the animator David O'Reilly, the interactive artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, and Takashi Murakami's pop remixing of cultural imagery.
His practice spans digital sculptures optimized for 3D printing, animation and GIF series built from cyclic movement and glitch, and augmented-reality pieces that bridge digital and physical space. The digital sculptures draw on Mesoamerican forms and on the digital preservation of historical architecture, part of a project to digitize and preserve pre-Hispanic heritage in collaboration with 3D-printing studios. For a 2023 anniversary event, he created an augmented-reality activation for the luxury brand Bvlgari that generated more than 500 live interactions, and he produced 3D models for resin printing for Barragán. He has also made tour visuals for the musician Kill The Noise and collaborated with the musician BBno$.
In February 2023 he released T.D.V.N.O.E.C.X., a seven-piece open edition collection, on Tezos. The following April he took part in “GIF CLASH”, a group release on objkt curated by Fakewhale, and in 2025 he was one of more than 60 artists included in objkt's Art Pack, contributing a commissioned original piece.,His work entered the permanent collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts Le Locle in Switzerland in 2025, and that year he was also selected for “Biennale Némo” in Paris and for Art on Tezos in Berlin.
