Dave Gamez is an animator and illustrator based in Monterrey, Mexico, working across character design, motion graphics and digital illustration. His projects move between hand-drawn 2D animation, 3D character work and interactive, real-time animation. In Cheese on Wheels, a personal project, he carried a single character from 2D cel animation through vector animation and into a fully modeled 3D city environment.
For the children's music project The Kiboomers, he designed characters and backgrounds and animated a series of 2D music videos intended to be simple enough for young children to follow. In Bear Market, a comedic animated short made in 2022, he responded to that year's NFT market crash with a 3D bear character walking past swinging market charts. He also built an interactive character animation project in Rive, using the tool's real-time engine to create characters with their own animation state machines that respond to user interaction. For Dave's 3D Avatar, he translated his own 2D persona into a fully rigged 3D character using Cinema 4D, ZBrush, 3D Coat and Substance 3D.
