CoDexter, credited as John Wowkavic of BrainArt Labs, is a generative artist who has explored using artificial intelligence to write the code behind his work. In July 2022 he released Starmap - AI Study I on fxhash, a first-of-its-kind generative art experiment in which written prompts were translated into JavaScript code generated entirely by GPT-3, apart from the random-number function needed to vary each output.
He continued this approach in Man and the Machine, a collaboration with the collector Maxwell White built around the question “What is the point of coding something so that it looks like it's not coded?” The collection explores the boundary between organic and inorganic by combining human artistic vision with AI-generated code.
