Claire Silver is an anonymous, pseudonymous artist who has worked with AI since 2017,describing the practice as post-photography and using AI as both tool and collaborator.The work moves between digital output and physically painted twins made in oil and acrylic, blending classical style and mythology into scenes about vulnerability, trauma and a transhumanist future.
Silver has summarized this distinction in a single line: “Photography is a camera for what is. AI is a camera for what isn't”.In 2021 Silver co-founded the AI-art platform BrainDrops with Erick Calderon, the founder of Art Blocks, and tech entrepreneur Jake Friedberg.Genesis, minted on BrainDrops' launch day in April 2022, comprises 500 uniquely titled outputs organized by narrative traits: chapter categories such as transcendence and crossroads, cycle labels such as nocturne and daybreak, and descriptive tags such as garden and android. Silver's Twitter motto, “Taste is the new skill”, argues that AI tools have shifted artistic value away from technical execution and toward curation and style.
Silver curated “In and Around The House II”, an online exhibition of AI-generated work by Laurie Simmons, choosing pieces that echoed Simmons' earlier work while standing on their own.In 2023 style moderne was shown at Christie's New York as part of “Future Frequencies”, an auction and exhibition organized with Gucci around generative art and fashion.That year Silver curated “E-motions” at Unit London, a 26-artist show about creative collaboration with AI set against Post-Internet art and Japan's hikikomori culture, and contributed the work transplant, in which a human figure is built from the same floral forms and pastel colors as its surroundings.,Silver also co-founded the non-profit Accelerate Art with Ben Roy, which raised close to $20,000 to help other artists cover minting costs.
Silver was among the earliest artists to work with DALL-E. The first DALL-E 2 piece sold on SuperRare for 52.69 ETH.Silver's work has entered the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and has sold at Sotheby's London and Christie's New York.,At Art Basel Hong Kong's Zero 10 digital art sector, Silver and ThankYouX presented Before Words, exploring perception before it stabilizes into meaning.
