Che-Yu Wu (Taiwanese, b. 1995),creates generative and audio-visual art that draws on an electrical engineering background together with physics, mathematics and music.He trained as an electrical engineer in Taiwan before studying Integrated Digital Media at New York University.He uses code and particle-based simulation to explore ideas of life, memory and consciousness within digital systems.,,
He founded the design studio Monoame Design, working with clients including the Taipei City Government, the National Palace Museum, Nissan and White Castle on interactive digital experiences.,He also produced online courses on creative coding through Hahow that introduced tens of thousands of students in Asia to the medium.In 2021 he released Electriz on Art Blocks, becoming one of the earliest Taiwanese artists on the platform.
In 2022 he showed Fairy Village, a particle-based work inspired by Vincent van Gogh's Starry Night and by mountain villages,in the group exhibition “In Our Code” at Unit London during Frieze London.The following year he presented the audio-visual work The Soul, inspired by Olafur Eliasson's The Weather Project and the visual branding of the 2022 Solana Breakpoint Conference.His series BioCode: Ecological Fusion was shown at Unit London's “Unbound: Ecology in the Age of Machines” and at “Digital Art Fair Hong Kong” in 2023. It uses particle and cellular simulations to evoke undulating hills, oceanic swells and radiating light waves, merging technological and ecological time.,In 2023 Wu staged the solo exhibition “The Great Equation” at Taipei 101, presenting thirteen generative works alongside a score by the composer Kiva. In 2024 his work SoulFish was included in the Personal Structures section of the 60th Venice Biennale.
