Claudio Dalla Bernaridina is an Italian artist, working under the name CCDDBB, who has lived on a tropical island in Thailand for more than a decade. Working mainly in generative code and pen plotting, he has focused since 2021 on single continuous-line drawings, exploring ways to bend the line without ever breaking its flow.
Before turning fully to art, he worked as a web and graphic designer, reportage photographer, documentarist, video maker, 3D modeler and animator, having first taught himself to code on a Commodore VIC-20. In 2015 he sold his cryptocurrency holdings and bought a restaurant in Thailand, a decision he has said freed him from needing to monetize his art. During the pandemic, with his restaurant closed, he returned to making art, and in March 2021 he discovered the early Tezos platform Hic et Nunc, his entry into the NFT space. Soon after, fx(hash) launched, and generative art became, in his words, the convergence of everything he had learned in code, design and expression.
His 2022 project Noisy Gardens on fx(hash) explores the fragile balance between human order and nature's untamed will. One token, Noisy Gardens #214, is one of only three in the collection that incorporate Tetris blocks. For Mercalli, released on fx(hash) on February 23, 2023, he coded a physics-based simulation of collapsing buildings using the Matter.js library, generating 66 unique outputs. He donated all primary sales from the piece to Tezquakeaid, a Tezos community initiative supporting victims of the February 2023 earthquake in Turkey and Syria. In April 2024 he showed Mountain River, a single unbroken line tracing a river through the pine-covered Alps near his hometown, in the exhibition “Long Distance Drawing 2024” in Amiens, France.
