Brad Damico is an abstract digital artist who creates work using photography, creative coding, and animation.,His pieces focus on color and shape, drawing on the Color Field, Minimalist, and Abstract Expressionist movements.,,,He grew up in Raytown, Missouri, and is based near Kansas City, Kansas.Self-taught since 2013, he has shown work in group exhibitions in the United States, England, and China.
His path into art began with disc golf. Starting in 2005 he customized his discs with tape-and-dye patterns, and years later he carried those same designs from disc to canvas, the shift that turned him into an artist. He trained as a programmer, and a COBOL class project in his final year of college led to a teaching job. He later spent several years working as a programmer before returning to teaching. Photography was his starting point, and his programming skills let him extend that practice into creative coding, using code to alter photographs and process generative images with software built for photo editing.
He began publishing his work on blockchain art marketplaces early in the medium's history, when there were only a handful of collectors, after reading an article explaining how blockchain could secure digital artworks. His pieces have appeared on Rare Art Labs, SuperRare and KnownOrigin, and later on MakersPlace.He also released work on Art Blocks with Ode to Roy and on EthBlock.art with Maurer Rose.Working with the Processing programming language, he combined overlapping sine waves into the series Taffy, which included the piece 2001 OI02.His work has been shown in group exhibitions in Fayetteville, Arkansas; Manchester, England; Los Angeles; and Shanghai.,These included “PURE FORM: Geometric Abstraction in Blockchain Art”, a group show curated by Melinda Wang.
