BOUBOY is a Thai artist based in Bangkok who makes surrealist illustrations, assembling hand-drawn characters and collaged imagery to address political and social upheaval, including unrest in his home country.Trained as a printmaker and etcher at KMITL's Department of Fine Arts, he draws on old books, websites and the work of past masters from the 1700s and 1900s to compose each work.,
BOUBOY began exhibiting his work as NFTs after discovering the medium, having struggled to sustain a full-time art practice in Thailand, where he felt collecting and viewing art was not widely supported. His illustrations return to themes of political and social upheaval, human equality and, at times, meme imagery such as Pepe the Frog. In 2023 he presented “MY DEFACED DEMOCRACY”, curated with Nifty Gateway, describing it as questioning “my country's so-called democracy, the elite, freedom of expression, and transparency”. He also runs a bar and lounge in Bangkok that he uses as a venue to showcase emerging artists and musicians.
In March 2024 BOUBOY contributed The Transaction War to The Memes, the collectible card collection published by 6529, describing the card as depicting a war fought for the freedom to transact.Later that year he released CLIMATE CRISIS COLLECTION, twenty-five unique works auctioned through the platform Ninfa, prompted by extreme heat in Thailand and reports of emperor penguin chick deaths.,He described the series as continuing his dark-comedy approach to social and political subjects, aiming for simpler, more accessible imagery to raise awareness of the climate crisis.
