BitttyLabs, also known as Bittty Gordon, is a crypto artist working in glitch art and net.art-inspired remix.,The practice includes founding a GlitchPunk that grew into DEATH PUNK, a collaborative Ethereum project reworking the Unofficial Punks format as art.,BitttyLabs also participates in the SPAM ART movement, a tendency defined by humor, bright colors, and the recurring image of the SPAM can.
BitttyLabs's first Unofficial Punks work was a GlitchPunk titled DEATH, which became the precursor to the collaborative DEATH PUNK collection.DEATH PUNK began in 2021 as an open collaborative project, with individual pieces credited to a rotating group of artists that has included BitttyLabs, CryptoChild, and Desultor.The original DEATH piece was later burned by the artist and reincarnated as DEATH PUNK DEATH, minted to commemorate the collection's 100th piece.For the “HALFWAY DEAD” show in Cryptovoxels, which ran from October 31 to November 30, 2021 across three galleries built by CryptoChild, BitttyLabs contributed the installation concept. In March 2022, BitttyLabs helped build the DEATH PUNK collective's headquarters in Voxels, opened with an art show to launch the collective's first zine issue.
In February 2023, BitttyLabs tweeted a copy-pasted excerpt from a 1996 spam-email artwork by the net.art collective JODI, intending to introduce fellow crypto artists to an early example of spam art. The tweet did not publish, but it triggered a permanent ban of the BitttyLabs Twitter account, which had grown to more than 5,000 followers. BitttyLabs is included in the MoCA Genesis Collection.In the artist's own words, the SPAM ART movement is fundamentally innocent and candid, aiming mainly to make people laugh rather than advance any manifesto. Members of the SPAM ART movement have described their aim as making the internet a playground, infiltrating uninvited spaces, flooding the Centre Pompidou's NFT collection with unsolicited work, and saturating hashtags on social media.
