Bio

DeepBlack is an artificial intelligence art project created in 2018 by Pete, an anonymous artist based in Paris, France, and first minted on Ethereum in 2019.^, Rather than using AI merely as a tool, Pete built DeepBlack to generate and curate each work without human intervention, producing a limited collection of 3,073 AI-generated paintings drawn from historical art styles.

During the on-chain AI art boom of 2023, DeepBlack was counted among the field's early movers alongside Pindar van Arman, with both artists' collections rising between 300 and 500 percent. In March 2025 DeepBlack #100, a single edition, was included in Christie's Augmented Intelligence auction alongside new works by Grimes, Botto, Sofia Crespo and Anna Ridler, which DeepBlack described as its first work auctioned at Christie's.^, In March 2026 DeepBlack was one of ten artists featured in “LOOK WHO'S LOOKING”, a show staged in Madrid as part of The Wrong Biennale, appearing alongside artists including Marina Abramovic.
