Bita

Bita Emami, known as Bitaem, is a self-taught artist who began with photography before turning to collage. She has described collage as “a puzzle that puts aside the pieces of our thoughts and creates a picture of the unconscious”. Her work explores society, culture, and the feelings that people try to hide.¹

Emami has said she could not study art formally because of her circumstances, but describes art as “like breathing for me” and “my safe place”.¹
