Ben Skaar (American, b. 2003) is a landscape and adventure photographer based in New York City whose images favor saturated color and staged, emotionally charged scenes over strict documentary realism.,He picked up his first camera at age eight and began sharing his photography online in 2017, at age 14.,,
In 2020 Skaar won Youth Travel Photographer of the Year, his first international competition, for images shot in the northeastern United States. He has since worked with brands including DJI, Samsung, and Visit New Hampshire.He also serves on the curation board of John Knopf's photography platform FOTO World, alongside photographers including Mike Yamashita and Julie Pacino.
Skaar has released work through A Boy's Quest, a chaptered photo series that pairs his landscape images with first-person narrative text.,Its second chapter, Oculus, documents a Milky Way photography trip in Massachusetts made while he was recovering from a fractured ankle.It was released through AOTM in October 2023 as part of the group exhibition “Ephemeral Visions: Exploring Transience through Art”.In April 2025 Skaar joined the Maya Spirits Art Retreat in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in Mexico alongside artists including Dave Krugman.There he made Calakmul: City of Two Pyramids, an aerial photograph of a jungle-reclaimed Mayan temple.,The work was donated by the artists to benefit a local Calakmul family.
