bashobits creates work across mixed media and generative systems that explores the intersection of movement and mindfulness. Inspired by the poetic wanderlust of Matsuo Bashō, the artist treats autonomous vehicles as a species called Mobility, which believes that life is motion. The work follows the aesthetic tradition of wabi-sabi, finding beauty in the imperfect, the impermanent, and the incomplete.
The first collection, Seasons of Mobility, a 365-work series, is set in the year 1010 AH — After Humanity — when autonomous trains, buses, and cars have become a new species. Its colours and scenes shift across the four seasons of a year. It was released as a curated collection through Sovrn Art, described as an independent, artist-first platform founded by Pindar Van Arman and Ezra Shibboleth. The following series, Freedom of Mobility, also 365 works, considers whether digital creations should remain free from corporate control over where they exist and who can interact with them. In Ghosts of Mobility, a 366-work series released fully on-chain, each token pairs two linked images: a preview called Gates and a continuously moving work called Ghosts.
