Basaia de la Creme, known simply as Basaia, is an Argentinian digital artist whose paintings fuse oil-on-canvas simulation with pop culture, hip-hop, streetwear and sports imagery. He founded La Créme De La Créme, a Tezos-based art collective and DAO that grew out of a genesis NFT collection he released in January 2022.
The genesis piece, la creme de la creme genesis, was released on Objkt in fifteen editions priced at fifteen tez each, with each buyer becoming a founder of what Basaia described as a “metaverse club & art dao”. Basaia said the group came together organically, built around “a small community of a degenerate art style, or whatever you want to call it”, rather than a fixed plan. In 2022, members of the collective created Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité (La Crème Stands With Ukraine), a piece made in honor of the Ukrainian artists ratcloak and eugor1996 after the invasion of Ukraine began.
In 2023, Fakewhale Cross included Basaia's painting god save the nfts in “METRO ROOTS”, a Weekly Art Market release presented alongside seven other artists and released on Objkt in May 2023.
