Bart Simons is a generative artist and digital designer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He holds a degree in Interactive Media from the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and started using code to create art in 2019. His work centers on color and how its meaning shifts with subtle changes in value, released as long-form generative series on platforms including Art Blocks, fxhash and Foundation.,
In May 2021, his animated work Neo Shibuya was shown as part of the 30 Seconds Museum project, displayed across 85 screens in the Miyashita Park district of Tokyo.That August, he released the two-part series Miscalculation on Foundation, born from a Voronoi algorithm that produced an unexpected bug, and the two-part series Blush, built from organic, flowing shapes with hand-drawn-looking textures made in Processing.,In November 2021 he collaborated with PRCNT skateboards on PRCNT, a deck design produced through his generative code.His piece Getijde (Dutch for tide) grew out of “spending most of the year cooped up inside four walls with a strong desire to escape”.
In September 2022 he released Wirwar through Bright Moments at his first solo show, held at their Venice Beach gallery, which offered in-person redemption to mint-pass holders.,Wirwar, Dutch for tangle or jumble, generates isometric mazes of colourful walls, inspired by isometric maze drawings and the works of Richard Serra.In August 2022 he released the three-part series Inefficient Structural Unit on Foundation, extending his experiments with Voronoi patterns into plottable outputs, with auction winners receiving a plot signed by the artist.In July 2023 he contributed Beeldelementen, a series of 144 works, to “N=12”, a Feral File group exhibition curated by Aaron Penne described as “an experiment in building an intentional community, with twelve artists across seven time zones creating work while in constant dialogue with one another”.,
