Baret LaVida (Spanish, b. 1978) is an artist and engineer who creates generative artworks with code.His practice explores art, science and technology through natural systems and historical references, often reworking Renaissance imagery and astronomy into on-chain works.,,His work has been exhibited in Paris, Rome and Lisbon, with an emphasis on process, structure and poetic form.
LaVida trained as an engineer at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, completing bachelor's and master's degrees between 1996 and 2002. He turned to photography as his main creative outlet after buying his first reflex camera in 2010, exhibiting photographic work at MadPhoto in Madrid the following year.His brother, then prototyping in the coding environment Processing at university, introduced him to generative art in 2014.LaVida did not begin studying the discipline in depth until 2021.He published his first generative works, a series titled codeTurning, on the platform fxhash starting in 2022.,In 2023 he curated generative art for “BlindGallery Seed Edition”.
In March 2024 he released Somnia Stellae with Bright Moments.The collection is framed as the posthumously rediscovered work of a fictional 16th-century Florentine painter whose passion for astronomy came from his father, an astronomer. It is structured around eleven color palettes, each carrying its own narrative drawn from Florentine light and landmarks such as the Arno river and the city's cathedrals.His generative series Primavera, released on Art Blocks, takes its name from Sandro Botticelli's paintings Primavera and The Birth of Venus at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.It turns the flowing hair of Botticelli's figures into a brush that traces each work's forms as they slowly unfold.,Primavera pays tribute to Bitcoin, framed as the origin that later enabled the generative art movement that emerged on Ethereum.
