Bahrull Marta, also known by the name Abomination Imagery, is a self-taught artist based in Jakarta, Indonesia, who creates dark, mixed-media portraits and figures.,,His work moves between traditional painting, charcoal and acrylic, and digital processing, exploring the space between control and chaos, light and darkness.
Marta began focusing on his art around 2008 and adopted the Abomination Imagery moniker in 2010, when he started illustrating and designing for bands and brands. His work has been used for album covers by metal bands, and his process typically begins with pencil, ink or acrylic on paper before he scans pieces into Photoshop or Procreate for further digital development.,He works intuitively, without a fixed concept, guided by what he has described as a philosophy of trusting imperfection and letting the work reveal its own meaning.
Marta's influences include Dave McKean and Seth Siro Anton, and his work has been published in Heavy Music Artwork, Out of Step Books and Artscum Magazine.,It has been exhibited in the United States, Switzerland, Spain and Lithuania.
In December 2021, Marta's work was included in “RIP HEN IRL”, an exhibition curated by Jesse Draxler at Valuart Gallery in Lugano-Paradiso, organized by Fakewhale in tribute to the Hic et Nunc platform after its shutdown. In October 2024, he was among more than sixty artists featured in “ART MARKET DAY”, a release by Fakewhale Gallery on objkt.com.
