Axstone is the name Turkish illustrator Selin Çınar works under, drawing on childhood memories of MS-DOS computer games and retro video game graphics for an illustration style built around bizarre animals and exaggerated human expressions. She has worked as an illustrator for more than 15 years, moving between commercial commissions and, since June 2021, NFTs.
Her commercial illustration work includes collaborations with brands such as Apple, Nike, and Mercedes-Benz, album covers for the musicians The Upbeats and Kazi, and cover art for Can Publishing's edition of Gabriel García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. Her work has also been featured in Vogue and Hi-Fructose. She began posting NFTs in June 2021 after encountering the concept in a Clubhouse conversation and learning of Beeple's work in the space.
Çınar no longer sketches before starting a piece, instead working spontaneously and drawing on bizarre animals, nature, and retro computer graphics for inspiration.In a late 2021 review, the motion art newsletter UNDRGRND compared her colorful characters, as seen in works like Outland, Fire, Sub Zero, and Never Come Back, to Mexican folk art, or artesanías.In June 2023 she released Love Is Love on SuperRare to mark Pride.
She has also contributed to The Memes by 6529, a collected series of NFT trading cards, with a card titled Radio 6529.,
