Jason Bailey, who writes and publishes as Artnome, is a writer, collector and curator working in crypto art and generative art.,He studied fine art and art history as an undergraduate and digital art for his master's before starting Artnome to publish art market analysis.,He discovered NFTs in 2017 and became one of the earliest collectors of digital and crypto art.,
In January 2018 he attended the Rare Art Festival in New York, the first gathering of the crypto art community, where HOMERPEPE sold for $39,200 in the first tokenized digital art auction. Around the same time, he bought XCOPY's first token, DE$CENT, for £1 on the marketplace Ascribe, largely to support the artist rather than as an investment. When Ascribe later shut down and the artwork it hosted on private servers disappeared, the token became worthless, an example he has cited in arguing for better NFT preservation.That advocacy led him to found GreenNFTs and ClubNFT, a service that backs up and diagnoses risk in collectors' NFTs.,
His 2018 essay “Why Love Generative Art?”, published on Artnome, inspired Kate Vass and Georg Bak to invite him to co-curate “Automat und Mensch: A History of AI and Generative Art” at Kate Vass Galerie in May 2019. Bak focused on the show's historical pioneers while Bailey brought in contemporary artists, and the exhibition included Larva Labs' physical Autoglyphs, which the curators pushed the duo to finish in time for the opening, alongside what they described as the first on-chain NFT shown in an exhibition.The gallery then formally partnered with Artnome, with Bailey advising on artists and providing curatorial assistance. Around the same time, he presented at Christie's Art + Tech Summit in New York.
He later curated “The Game of Life – Emergence in Generative Art” at Kate Vass Galerie, featuring artists including Jared S. Tarbell and Kjetil Golid, and wrote on the history of generative art's tools, from Flash to neural networks, for Art in America.,,Bailey also collaborated with Unit London on the exhibition “The Pixel Generation” and co-hosts the podcast NFT All-Stars for CoinDesk.,He advises Le Random, the institution devoted to the history and collecting of generative art.
