Arjit Kapoor, working under the name Chaosconstruct, is a generative artist whose code-based work simulates natural and social systems, drawing on phenomena such as flocking behaviour and organic growth. Kapoor has said the goal is for the work to feel as natural as possible, calling it “the best compliment I can get” when a piece is mistaken for “a natural painting or something more organic in the natural sense”.
Kapoor discovered generative art after encountering Anders Hoff's work on generative systems during a difficult period following college, and began coding in Processing after reading a book on the medium's fundamentals. Introduced to NFTs by the artist Fabin Rasheed, Kapoor minted his first generative work, Carbon Study, through Async Art. In 2021 he released Synapses on Art Blocks, a particle system in which thousands of particles move across the canvas like a graphite smudge, tracing the growth of a visual structure over time. By 2021 Kapoor had also begun exploring ways to mimic traditional techniques such as pencil shading using code, alongside research into algorithms — including Physarum and differential growth — that shape natural structures. That year he also began a graduate program in social systems, crediting his generative art practice with reshaping how he approached complex systems.
