Arief Witjaksana (Indonesian, b. 1989) is a painter and NFT artist based in Tangerang, Indonesia, who combines physical canvases with blockchain technology, embedding acrylic paintings with NFC authentication chips and augmented-reality layers in work he calls “phygital” art. He also creates generative NFT collections, including a set of 11,111 avatar artworks released through his web3 company Superlative Secret Society and inspired by the history of secret societies and medieval guilds.
Witjaksana studied at Trisakti's Faculty of Art and Design in Jakarta, completed his degree in 2013, and describes himself as a self-taught illustrator. He founded the studio Historica Branding & Creative Studio, training designers and illustrators before shifting his focus to fine art and NFT projects. He went on to found the web3 art company Superlative Secret Society (SSS) and release its flagship collection of the same name, Superlative Secret Society, comprising 11,111 generative avatars built from more than 220 hand-drawn artwork elements. A manifesto for the collection describes its figures as “metaphysical beings that inhabit the Superlative Multiverse and appear to us as pieces of art”, an idea Witjaksana traced to the history of secret societies and medieval guilds.
