Hurd came out as queer in 1994. Their childhood was marked by addiction in the family, midwestern values, and skateboarding and hardcore music culture.¹ They also opened their own gallery and storefront space in Albuquerque, A. Hurd Gallery. There they debuted the solo show “I was born in a gay bar”, a nostalgic reconciliation of their life before and after coming out as LGBTQ in the 1990s.³

In 2021¹ they held their debut London solo show, “Dismantled Identity”, at StolenSpace Gallery, examining why people attach their sense of self to so many different identities.⁴ In 2023 Hurd had their first museum solo show, “Verified”, at the Brand Library and Art Center in Glendale, California, curated by Thinkspace Gallery.⁵ In 2025 the solo show “Lovers + Fighters” at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles presented 17 acrylic paintings on canvas and wood.⁶ They have also taken part in NFT community events such as XO Crypto's NFT Pride Social at the Blockchain Center of New York, alongside artists including Diana Sinclair and Edgar Fabian Frias.⁷
