Ann Ahoy is a German artist and self-taught tattooist based in Mexico City, working across illustration, painting, blackwork tattooing and digital art.,Her work is minimalist and often deconstructive, isolating fragments of the body such as hands rather than full figures, and draws on Surrealist and Dada influences to explore identity, transformation and human nature.,,
Born and raised in a small town on the Baltic Sea coast of northern Germany, she took the pseudonym Ann Ahoy — her real name, Yohanna, spelled backwards — evoking the sailors' greeting “ahoy”. She studied visual communication in Berlin before an exchange in Melbourne, Australia, and later settled in Mexico City after visiting a friend there. Ahoy began tattooing professionally in 2016, working in blackwork with clean lines and dotwork across Berlin, Mexico City and Oaxaca.
In 2020,after losing tattoo clients during the COVID-19 pandemic, she began minting on the marketplaces KnownOrigin and Rarible,an introduction to blockchain she has called “a blessing in disguise”.Her genesis piece on KnownOrigin, Ask your thoughts, is part of a series called Fragments and described as a “surreal study of the female body”, while her first upload to Rarible, watermelon from hell, was an animated gif. She has shown work in the virtual exhibitions “She Art Exhibition” and “ILL Show” in Cryptovoxels. In 2021, Ahoy released the KnownOrigin works Feral and Natural High.
