Anibal Argañaraz (b. 1967) is a painter and digital artist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, who has worked in oil on canvas since childhood and in digital media since 2003. Argañaraz photographs physical paintings and retouches them digitally, preserving their expressionist quality while portraying scenes of urban life, its stories, secrets and the evolution of human contradiction.
Argañaraz holds a degree in Visual Arts and has worked as a teacher and video editor. Argañaraz had numerous solo exhibitions in Argentina, including the series Anatomies and Connectors at the Centro Cultural de la Cooperación in 2008, Seas and subways in 2016, and What was left of summer at the Fundación Vocación Humana in 2019.Argañaraz's process brings the two practices together: paintings are made in oil on canvas in the studio, then photographed in high resolution and continued digitally on an iPad, preserving the expressionist, material quality of the original work.,
Argañaraz joined the platform Hic Et Nunc in July 2021, and more than ten of the paintings have since been acquired for the Tezos Foundation's permanent collection, curated by the photographer and curator Misan Harriman.,As curator and manager of that £1 million collection, launched in 2022 to support underrepresented artists, Harriman has supported Argañaraz's work, calling it “staggering”.In March 2022, the piece Eternal call waiting 4 was featured among five artists in UNDRGRND magazine's coverage of the Tezos-based UNDRGRND Collection.Argañaraz's paintings have also entered private collections in Barcelona, Miami and Martinique, and Argañaraz is listed among the artists featured by Kate Vass Galerie.,
