Andrej Ujházy is a digital artist who paints with the computer, creating Photoshop-based work made specifically for online circulation. He posts his paintings under varied profiles across multiple blogging platforms and social media, including acidyblog.blogspot.com and bluzzard.tumblr.com, producing several bodies of work at once. In 2015 his work was included in “Brushes”, an online exhibition co-presented by Rhizome and the New Museum.
For the show he presented congress of the sarmatian women by the black sea, 2015, a Photoshop painting made while he played the video game Total War: Attila. He set out to make an epic historical painting portraying the Sarmatians, a Central Asian people whom Herodotus described as descended from Amazon mothers. The painting intervened in the game's narrative, departing from its photorealistic style with gestural digital brushwork that bridges historical epic and personal expression. Ujházy has cited Laura Brothers, who was also included in the exhibition, as a key influence. On September 3, 2015, he joined art historian Alex Bacon and artists Laura Brothers, Michael Manning, and Giovanna Olmos for a panel discussion on the exhibition hosted by the New Museum.
In April 2018 he held a residency with GAZELL.iO, the digital platform of the gallery Gazelli Art House dedicated to supporting artists working at the intersection of art and technology.,GAZELL.iO presented a collection of his works from that year, titled with phrases evoking computer processes, among them Loading..., Buffering..., and Calibrating Oscillations....
